Katie McKnoulty
Photographer, Writer & Brand Consultant
Since 2013, I’ve been telling stories through photography and words, seeking out the light in unconventional, uncommon places, people and ways of life.
Australian-born and now based between Marche and Tuscany in Italy, my work explores travel, culture and place, from original editorial stories to photography and writing for travel brands, hotels, tourism boards, creative agencies and artisans. I’m drawn to stories that get beneath the surface of a place: the people, traditions, new ideas and ways of life that really make it what it is.
My stories and photography have been published in The Guardian, BBC Travel, Lonely Planet, Vogue Italia, Harper’s Bazaar, Condé Nast Traveler and New York Magazine, among others. Commercial clients include Booking.com, Boutique Homes, Prior, Design Hotels, Getty Images, Kintzing and Shutterstock.
Alongside my work as a photographer and writer, I bring a background in brand strategy and communications. With a Bachelor of Business/Arts, I’ve worked in marketing roles for tourism boards and travel companies, and with creative and travel agencies in Paris and New York on brand, social media and content strategies, copywriting and editing.
I bring these worlds together, combining an editorial storyteller’s eye with a strategist’s understanding of what makes a story deeply resonate. I work with brands, destinations and small businesses to uncover and tell the stories that make them distinct, through photography, writing and strategy.

I also offer 1:1 guidance, workshops and audits for creatives seeking greater clarity around their work, story and how to put it out into the world to make a living doing what they love.
At the heart of my work is a curiosity about place and people, and a desire to seek out and share the human, hopeful and beautiful stories that mostly go unseen.
I believe the stories we tell can shape how we see the world, how we travel through it and how we connect with one another.
